MCKENZIE, Tenn. – Blue Mountain women ran into a buzzsaw in Tennessee Tuesday night in the form of the Bethel Lady Wildcats, as the Lady Toppers fell 83-38.
Bethel set the tone right at the tip, going on a 9-0 run. Blue Mountain answered after a timeout with consecutive buckets making it 9-5 before the Wildcats would go on another run, this time a 15-2 run to end the first quarter and lead 24-7.
Bethel enjoyed a 45-18 lead at the halftime break.
The Wildcats maintained their lead throughout the second half of the tilt, with Ever Walker finishing with a game-high 20 points for Bethel.
Kandice Ricks (JR/Muscle Shoals, Ala.) led Blue Mountain in scoring with 10 points. Blue Mountain’s 20 percent shooting from the floor factored into the loss, while Bethel shot 43 percent from the floor and 50 percent from deep (11-of-22).
“It’s great to have the opportunity to play the number fourteen team in the nation early,” BMC head coach Tracy Rice said. “You find out your team strengths and weaknesses quickly. It’s a great assessment of where you are and what you have to do to get to the top level. I’m proud of the girls’ effort. We will continue to grow as a team daily and make necessary improvements.”
BMC (0-2) returns to action Thursday at Bonner-Arnold Coliseum in Booneville, Miss. against Williams Baptist with a 6 p.m. tip.
