MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Blue Mountain Men’s Cross Country student-athlete Tanner Childs has been selected as the SSAC’s male A.O. Duer Scholarship Award nominee for 2020-21, the conference office announced recently.
Each conference selects one male and one female nominee to be considered for the NAIA’s overall winner, which will be announced in September. Nominees must have a GPA of 3.75 or better and have attained junior academic standings, and selection will be based on scholarship, character, citizenship and playing ability.
“Tanner’s pursuit of excellence in every endeavor is confirmed by his 3.835 GPA and by his genuine desire to leave every situation better than he found it,” BMC President Dr. Barbara McMillin said. “As a leader on our campus, he has earned the respect and admiration of not only his teammates but of his classmates and his many friends.”
“From the moment we began recruiting Tanner, he has demonstrated nothing but high character and citizenship,” BMC A.D. Will Lowrey commented. “Tanner has shown his love for serving and encouraging others during his tenure at Blue Mountain College.”
“On several occasions I have overheard Tanner making a stand for what is right with his teammates during long road trip conversations,” Topper head coach Heather Duley said. “He consistently holds runners accountable in the NAIA core values.”
