CLINTON – The Tougaloo College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams competing in the 2020 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship on Wednesday at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss. Tougaloo served as the host institution for the championship with the other participating schools being Dillard University, Edward Waters College, Philander Smith College and Xavier University. Rust College and Talladega College did not participate.
Despite the Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs not being able to prepare as a team due to students not being on campus because of COVID-19, they performed very well. The Lady Bulldogs were led in the 5k race by freshman Dallis Barker, who finished 21st overall with a time of 33:34. Latisha Rudolph was the next runner to cross the finish line for the Lady Bulldogs at 24th overall with a time of 35:57. Jasmine Ivory finished 26th overall with a time of 36:13 and Samys Douglas finished 27th with a time of 41:35.
The Bulldogs, who ran an 8k race, finished 4th overall with a time of 3:41:10. They were led by Jaylen Lester and Sean Atwater, who finished 19th and 20th overall with a time of 38:46. Elijah Scott finished 24th overall with a time of 41:52, Lanacus Hudson finished 26th with a time of 48:18 and Lazerick Caston finished 27th with a time of 53:26.
Xavier University claimed its 14th straight GCAC Women’s Cross Country Championship and Philander Smith claimed the school’s first ever GCAC Men’s Cross Country Championship.
