BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Jackson State’s Ameshya Williams its SWAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her outstanding performance during competition Dec. 8-14.
Williams (Gulfport, Miss.) finished with a career high 28 points and 14 rebounds in the Lady Tigers non-conference win against Nicholls State (75-60). The senior center also tallied her second double-double of the season.
Leading into this season Williams was named the 2020-21 SWAC Women’s Basketball Preseason Player of the Year while also garnering SWAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year recognition.
Other Notable Performances:
- Mississippi Valley State’s Zakiya Mahoney averaged 15 points and 8.5 rebounds a game this past week for MVSU.
- Grambling State’s Alexus Holt was a significant contributor during the Lady Tigers first win of the season as she tallied with 12 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists in a road victory over ULM. She then tied a season-high with 17 points in a hard fought road loss at UAB.
