HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Stillman College’s early fourth quarter lead slipped away Friday, as William Carey rallied to hand the Tigers a 55-49 women’s basketball loss in the third of four games this season between the two teams.
Stillman out-scored William Carey 14-9 in the second quarter to carry a 29-25 lead into halftime. Stillman’s momentum carried into the second half, leading all but 30 seconds in the third quarter.
A Brittany Washington 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter gave Stillman its largest lead of the night at nine points, 45-36, but William Carey answered with 10-straight points to take the lead on a McKinley Steal basket and closed the game with a 19-4 run.
Olivia Mosley knocked down a pair of free throws with 2:29 to play and scored a basket with nine seconds remaining for Stillman’s only points in the final nine minutes.
Imani Wimbish-Gay played 27 minutes off the bench for Stillman and led all players with 15 points. De’Asia Marsh added 10 points and six rebounds. Zaria Jenkins led the Tigers with seven rebounds.
Rebekah Engle produced 14 points and nine rebounds to lead William Carey. Seal finished with 12 points and eight assists. Gabrielle Gallup added 10 points.
Stillman (2-9, 2-8 SSAC West) will return to William Carey (11-4, 7-3 SSAC West) on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip for the final road game of the regular season.
