BLUE MOUNTAIN – Dillard (La.) was hoping to come into Blue Mountain Tuesday and spoil Blue Mountain’s hopes of winning the first-ever match on its home court, but it wouldn’t be as the Toppers won 3-1 in non-conference action.
Dillard came out with a quick 4-0 lead, but the Toppers cut through it with ease to take the first set 25-19.
The Bleau Devils would take the second set, but the Toppers blew through their opponents to win their fourth match of the season.
Taylor Wright (JR/Huntsville, Ala.) would lead the Toppers in hitting with a double-double with 17 kills and 13 digs, and Tiandre Stuart (JR/Bridgetown, Barbados) added 10.
Sydney Colledge (JR/North Odgen, Utah) collected a double-double with 26 assists and 14 digs, followed by Johanna Hoffpauir (SO/Trinidad, Colo.) with 14 digs.
“Its’ always good to start back up the season with a win,” Topper head coach Reid Gann said. “I thought we made some really nice digs in the back court against a team with really strong pin hitters. We made plenty of mistakes but were able to overcome them in the end.”
BMC (4-2) will play Dillard again Thursday in New Orleans with a start time of 6 p.m.
