HENDERSON, Tenn. – Freed-Hardeman snapped a two-game losing streak to Blue Mountain Saturday, ousting the Toppers 104-64.
The Lions’ deep bench and inside game gave Blue Mountain fits all day, getting 22 first-half points from their bench to Blue Mountain’s 0.
The Toppers combined two scoring droughts for almost seven minutes without a bucket midway through the first half, and Freed took advantage going on a 14-0 run in one of them, leaving BMC down 54-29 at the break.
It was more of the same in the second half, as Freed would jump out to a 72-42 lead almost halfway through, eventually getting 26 more points from their bench, giving them 48 on the game.
Leading the Lions (1-0) in scoring was Jon Moore and John Musselwhite who both put in 15 points. Five Lions would score in double figures.
Brandon Williams (JR/Dyersburg, Tenn.) led Blue Mountain with 17 points, while Micah Powers (SR/Holly Springs, Miss.) added 13 and Luka Tejic (JR/Uzice, Serbia) chipped in 11.
“We were completely out of sync today,” Topper head coach Jermael Bingham said. “We turned the ball over too much and they made us pay for it. We can’t go as long as we did without putting the ball in the basket and expect to stay in the game with a team like Freed.”
BMC (1-1) returns Tuesday against Southeastern Baptist in Lamar, Miss. with a 7 p.m. tip.
