MCKENZIE, Tenn. – (Box Score) Blue Mountain suffered a 98-82 non-conference loss to former SSAC foe Bethel Monday night, despite a stellar performance from Brandon Williams (JR/Dyersburg, Tenn.).
In the first half, Bethel would jump out to a quick, eight-point lead before Blue Mountain’s Williams heated up.
Williams would nail four threes and convert a three-point conversion off a foul, tying the game at 20-20 at the 11:52 mark.
Williams led Blue Mountain with 19 points in the first half, four above his season average.
The Toppers hit the road with just eight players due to injury for the contest, leaving Bethel with a bench advantage.
Despite trying to pull away in the second half, the Toppers wouldn’t fade, getting 10 second-half points from Williams and a strong showing from Aleksa Vujadinovic (JR/Niksic, Montenegro) who would go on to score 25 points. Blue Mountain would also have four players to foul out and went to just four players on the floor with 1:45 left in the game.
“I was really proud of how our guys didn’t fold when Bethel got out to a big lead,” Topper head coach Jermael Bingham said. “We were shorthanded, and our guys just got after it against a really good team.”
Williams finished with a game-high 29 points, while Micah Powers (SR/Holly Springs, Miss.) chipped in 12.
Chandler Clements led Bethel with 22 points. The Wildcats would also outrebound the Toppers 47 to 25.
